Iverson Preserve currently has a failing tide gate, and county officials are involving the community to determine what is most important to save. There were 16 known concerns, and Island County Public Works is working to address this taking all into consideration. Homes are a priority, as they promised owners in the Long Beach neighborhood that they will not endanger homes. This promise, in turn, will risk the habitat for Chinook salmon. Skagit River System Co-Op confirmed 68 percent of pocket estuaries for juvenile Chinook Salmon are inaccessible, which will be increased with the decision to save the homes.
If you would like to get involved, now is the time as your concerns and solutions are ready to be heard!
